Hanging out in India
This was the view from my hotel room during a recent brief visit to India. The men working on this construction took their lives into their own hands clambering around on the 12th floor scaffolding. They worked seven days a week in extreme heat. They would wash off in buckets on the ground and rinse their clothing there. They seemed to be living in the building – probably a long way from home.
A visit like this really give us a reality check. What do we have to complain about in Australia – this lucky country we call home? Many immigrants must strive untiringly to get the qualifications required to earn the right to live in this country. Since visiting India, I certainly have a new respect for the Indians and other immigrants who have recently managed to make a new life in Australia.
What do you think? Can you imagine working in those conditions?
